Emotional intelligence defines abilities distinct from, but complementary to, the logical and cognitive abilities measured by IQ. 

Research has shown that people with high levels of emotional intelligence are more successful than those with average levels. The higher you progress up the corporate ladder, the more difference emotional intelligence makes - because results at higher levels are determined not solely by technical ability but increasingly by how well you can unlock the potential of teams.

Unlike IQ - Emotional intelligence can be developed and scores/competence can be improved.

Experienced partners in a multi-national consulting firm who were assessed on their levels of emotional intelligence delivered $1.2 million more profit from their accounts than did other partners - a 139% incremental gain
 
Software developers with high levels of emotional intelligence can develop effective software three times faster than others 

Sales Consultants with high levels of emotional intelligence generate twice the revenue of their colleagues 

A national retailer found that sales people hired based on emotional intelligence had half the drop out rate during their first year
